- As of 2016, an estimated 6.2 million Americans have HF based on self-reported survey data, which is known to underestimate the true prevalence (sensitivity 28%–38%). Based on this HF prevalence, it was recently estimated that in 2018, incremental national expenditure for HF totaled $22.3 billion and total annual expenditures for patients with HF was $179.5 billion (2018 dollars).
